Incarnation Lutheran Church was established in Bunuba Peje-West Chiefdom, Kailahun District, Eastern Province in 1989. The worshipping community met at Bunubu Teacher’s College and was composed of lecturers from the college under the leadership of Rev. Thomas G. Momoh. The early members were primarily from Roman Catholic and Methodist backgrounds.
The church membership was displaced in 1991 when Bunuba was attacked by the rebels. In 1992, members in Kenema met to re-establish the congregation, and since 1993 they have met for worship at Eastern Polytechnic University.
Following his ordination in 2006, Rev. Lynton Gomoh was assigned as the first ordained pastor of Incarnation.
Land was acquired in 2008 for the construction of a permanent church building, and groundbreaking took place during the 2009 ELCSL national assembly.
