The Redemption Lutheran Church was established in Bumpe Town in December 1990 and held the first Devine service on the 1st Sunday in December, 1990 with eight adult men, seven adult women and ten children, making a total of twenty-five (25) members.
The purpose of the church is to preach Jesus Christ, to also win lost souls and to awaken lukewarm Christians. At the height of the Rebel war, rebels attacked Bumpe, and the church members went into hiding in nearby villages and bushes. Bumpe later had its second and deadly attack on the 31st December, 1994 and the entire town was grossly destroyed and finally became a ghost town.
RESUMPTION In the year 1998, we came back to resettle, but it was difficult to get our members on board. We did several membership drives and visitations. With the few members we got, we had our first church service in September, 1998
GROWTH We have had three baptismal services. The first baptism was conducted by Revs. Samuel K. Yovonie and Hinga Lavalie. They were able to baptized ninety (90) members including, 40 adult men, 40 adult women and 10 children. Our second baptism took place in December 2002 with twenty five (25) members. Adult men 6, adult women 7 and children 12; by Rev. Samuel K. Yovonie.
The third baptism took place on the 26th May, 2003 with twenty one (21) members. This was comprised of five adult men, three women, and 13 children by both Revs. Samuel K. Yovonie and Dalton Levi John. The total number of members baptized for the three baptismal services conducted is 130 members.
EDUCATION Since our children are our future leaders of tomorrow and for the church to continue to grow, we have a plan to open a primary school in Bumpe in the future where we can train our children morally, spiritually, religiously and educationally. We havea large acre of land to build both church and school buildings.
