Saint Mark Lutheran Church, as a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sierra Leone (ELCSL,) is situated at 4a Consider Lane, Calaba Town formally originated from Saint John Lutheran Church, Mellon Street, Wellington under the Leadership of the late Mr. Kamara and Mr. Pessima as Pastor, who was still alive in 1989.
The Lutheran members who migrated from St. John Lutheran Church, Mellon Street headed by Evangelist Moses Kobba Momoh started worship in the living room of Mrs. Doris Quee-Tucker. By then the now Lutheran Center was dwelling in the house with a lot of different tenants. Because of the rapid growth, they relocated to another place in the same compound- this time in a Zinc building commonly called (pan body), later under the now functioning Clinic.
The membership continued to grow more and more until 2002 when a building project was launched.. Members contributed generously towards the building project. Within a very short time with God on their side, they were able to build a modern church which can host 200 members.
Today, Saint Mark can boast of a membership of 400 baptized. These include 150 children, 101 youth, 90 women and 50 men. This number is accompanied by 50 associate members.
The continued increase in the membership of this congregation has posed a big challenge in terms of accommodation. We are glad that the ministry is growing, and at the same time we pray that our desire for a bigger building will yield fruitful reward.
